Sporty Joe's Colour Award System
Due for re-launching in January 2008, the “Colour Award System” was developed by Joe
Leighton.
It has been internationally recognized at several health and fitness conventions. Furthermore, many
of the international and local schools, private clubs, and community centers throughout Singapore have used
Sporty Joe's methods.
The Sporty Joe’s Colour Award System emphasizes fun, fitness and fundamentals. The aim of the
system is to provide children with challenges while building confidence. Throughout activities,
children are praising based on "88 ways to praise a child". Hearing these positive words and
reinforcement from coaches and peers builds confidence.
The system is designed to monitor progress and achievements while children participate in
gymnastics, fitness and swimming classes, and promotes total body conditioning and development that
results in a healthy body and healthy mind.
The Sporty Joe's Colour Award System consists of 14 levels of badges with each level comprising of
30 skills to master. This programme is based closely on the Australian Gymnastics Developmental
Programme and is ideally suited for gymnastics in Singapore which has recently adopted the Australian
methodologies.
In addition to the Colour Award System, gymnasts competing at local meets also train using the
Australian system for competitions.
